Re: Phil Ivey vs. Andy Beal
[ QUOTE ]
I would assume that Beal played a system and if that is the case and he had it figured out pretty close to perfection by running countless simulations, why did he raise the stakes? If he had any edge at all, then he should try to grind it out rather than trying to score a quick one.
By raising the stakes it became clear that he didn't try to prove the quality of his analysis. Accepting short term luck shows that he was just trying to beat the pros to boost his ego and nothing else. I am afraid that it wasn't a serious attempt to tackle the game from a theoretical standpoint.
[/ QUOTE ]you should read the book before you run your mouth.
andy plain well knows that pros have many advantages compared to him, i.e decades of live play. one way to negate some of these advantages was to play at limits higher than what the pros would be comfortable with. you may be the best in the world, but when you're making it a couple bets to go pre-flop and the pot is almost a million dollars, you can't really be that comfortable.
the corporation is looking for a fat whale, and andy beal is looking for ways to beat the best in the world. he beat many of the best in the world in sessions, he also lost to many of the best in the world too.
