Re: Ask Anacardo anything
Do you find it easier to respect others than to have respect for yourself?
I see the guy mowing lawns and I think that is honest work and I think he has good character to do that job. I often want to trade jobs with him. Do something simple and pure.
I do a pretty humble job also (Store Clerk) but for some reason at times I struggle to respect myself for it. I mean I have moments where I think man I really have been toiling here and do I really have anything to show for it? I often feel humiliated by the way some of my customers treat me. Some people that know me well even insult me by saying things like “Are you still doing that?” I long for the respect of others but do I even respect myself? At the same time I know people that do the same job I do and I respect them. I know how hard it is and they seem to never complain about it. Why do we think less of ourselves than we do of others?
I ask you this because you didn't like my first question and you seem to be struggling with this same theme. Not good enough for you but good enough for others. I could be wrong here. But it seems like if you could find a motivation to do something mediocre and common you have a chance at respecting yourself.
I think all jobs are somewhat common and useless. We can change that by putting a special effort into everything we do. People notice that, unfortunately it is rare that people will express it. If you gain the respect of others there is a good chance 99% of them will never tell you.
Respect yourself and others will respect you. Do you agree? I will just keep asking hard questions till you answer one. It is not like there is a wrong answer. I just want to see you try.
