I am not saying this is the case this time, but I have seen people impersonate the FT pros (and other famous people) in chat. I don't know how it's done, but it's possible to make the name whatever you want in the chat window. One night, this guy kept making oddball statements from Phil Ivey (saying he would give anyone $5K if they could guess his middle name), George Bush, Saddam Hussein, Alan Cunningham (saying he had terminal cancer), etc. Maybe there are some escape sequences you can enter before your text which allow you to enter any name you want.

The chat at FT has definitely been hacked.
