My thoughts on the ZeeJustin situation
My thoughts may be a bit biased since ZeeJustin and I get along well and I consider him a friend. I may also be biased because a while ago I had about 10k taken from me by William Hill because they claimed I was colluding. The $ loss hurt back then but I was more pissed off that I could not get them to tell me anything about why they thought I was colluding. They kept promising to have someone contact me in more detail about the issue but never did. I have had my account open there for only 2 weeks and almost all of my play was heads up. I've never cheated and didn't know anyone on the site. My $ ended up going directly to the pockets of WH.
I don’t think taking 100k of funds, which were earned through legit play, from ZJ’s account is a fair decision. One reason is that party will not be able to punish any of the other hundred or so players the same way. I’m sure those players cashed out as soon as they heard about the JJprodogy situation. It even seems that playing the tourneys this way has become more or less of a norm among the guys that consider themselves to be pro online tourney players. You wont read much from these players on message boards for the obvious reasons. Even though still I don’t agree with the taking away of the $, I can swallow some of the arguments for it. Party absolutely has to make sure that in some way goes back to the players. If they say they will invest it into some new anti-fraud team, they are realistically just saving $ as with all the money party generates, there is no excuse not to have this team/project in the first place (if it is needed).
I think most of you are being over the top mean to Zeejustin about the situation and not seeing the bigger picture. In a way, ZJ just found a weakness in the software and used it to his advantage. That is the characteristic of a cheat but is also one of an opportunist. I think about half the players on this forum would cheat (for example sit at the same table with 2 account names) if they were sure they were going to get away with it.
I AM happy that party took steps to prevent this abuse even though it doesn't apply to me since I profit only from cash games. However, I think the biggest issue here is that party poker has not done anything about this in the past. Of course they KNEW that many players used multiple accounts to play from the same IP address but they decided NOT to do anything about it until word got out (hey, it’s extra $ with every buy in for party after all).
This to me clearly means that party is more interested in their own revenue rather than in the fairness of its games. Of course once the JJProdogy story got out, people made a fuss about this issue. Some of these players planned on boycotting party's big online tourneys and only THEN did party block zeejustin's account (and is likely to block and seize the funds of many other players soon). I wouldn’t be surprised if party currently knows maybe about a hundred other players that have violated the rules or cheated in a similar way, but since these players probably cashed out most of their funds already, party won’t go after them and will choose to, instead to keep them as paying customers
You guys can rest assured that party will NOT go after the players who get rakeback even though it’s against their policy. However, keep in mind that the ONLY reason they won't be doing it is because it’s a move that would hurt party’s profits.
