perhaps a raptors fan could educate me here (and im trying not to be too biased, since my only real knowledge of the raptors has stemmed from this playoff series) but why does calderon backup ford, and not vica versa?

This topic has been beat to death here in Toronto. It's our version of Nash for MVP debate
I am not a huge Ford fan and if you ever listen to the media in Toronto you won't find too many either amongst Raps fans. Even Ford supporters here would agree that TJ is only slightly better than Calderon (if at all). I'm not sold on this, and it would be a different case if we really got to see Calderon starting and see what he could do.
It's been said in the media that even within Toronto's management that deep down inside they feel that Calderon would probably bring more to the table than Ford, but the case with Ford is that he has more potential. For what they invested in him, he's still young. He's amongst the fastest point guard in the league. He's very athletic and can make some incredible plays. That is the key here and it's potential. Colangelo has said that he had no idea that Calderon would turn out to be the player he is now.
That said, I'm so thrilled that we have the PG situation that we have in Toronto. Both of them can light it up on any given night when the other is having an off night.

I haven't seen Toronto play a lot this year (less than 10 games) but every time I see TJ Ford is just shooting jumpers with 15-20s in the shot clock, I really don't like that in a PG
