I've been in radio a long time. People who call for contests just call for the sake of calling, hoping they'll win w t-shirt, CD, or something.
A morning show I did had this Christmas contest where listeners had to get these bingo-type cards. We would call out "A4" in the morning, and whoever called in identifying the prize on "A4" won. One prize was a year's supply of pet food - the winner didn't have a pet. Another was a spray-in truck bedliner - the winner didn't have a truck. We call these people prize wh***s.
