If some high-stakes dude comes in after a week, it may be pretty tough for him to sift through 7 pages to find one or two interesting threads that he may have some input on.

I think this is where weekly digests come in pretty handy. I've been thinking of writing a quick system that allows people to submit nominations for threads to make the weekly digest, and then I'd go through and pick what I feel are the best out of those (and probably eventually get a couple other posters to sort through the nominations and choose the best ones).
