It just doesn't make any sense to me.
Me : Joe. Would you rather lose a game knowing you used your best pitchers, or lose a game leaving your best pitcher on the bench?
Joe : WHY WOULD I USE HIM WHEN WE ARENT WINNING
Me : Because using your best pitcher late in a tie game opposed to waiting for a lead will increase your win expectancy significantly.
Joe : ... <blinks> ...
