Default Re: Top 5 greatest American bands of all time

I just can't bring myself to put the Pixies (2 great albums) or NMH (1 great album, though arguably one of the greatest ever) in there. Though that means I should probably take VU out, too.

Pearl Jam = Generic arena rock, even if they are pretty good at it. Really, how many lost brain cells are these guys away from becoming Creed?

RHCP = From bad party rock to a couple of decent albums, to ripping off Tom Petty and becoming almost adult contemporary, this is the best we have to offer?

Nirvana = Just not enough time to know for sure. They still hadn't broken out of the Pixies/Melvins mold yet, though they were starting to.

Metallica = This is a joke, right?

If I were to include a major 90's band it would be the Smashing Pumpkins.

CCR has about a gabillion great songs, and I guess that should be enough, but....

I used to adore the Doors, but then I grew up.

Revised:

Beach Boys
Sonic Youth
REM
The Smashing Pumpkins
VU
