Good post OP. I always have trouble with these things because some people rate arbitrarily while others rate what they like the best and it's not possible to say whose right. I guess my list of the greatest would be
CCR
The Pixies
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Beach Boys
Pearl Jam
Not in any particular order...I tried to "average" what I like + overall popularity but I'm still not satisfied.
