that machine is actually like really good for your hips. Since im thinking about starting martial arts soon i want more flexibility and strength in my hips. This should also be quite helpful for soccer.
for me, a core day is like:
situps, leglifts, those inverted situps where you kinda hang the other way and lift with your back, doing side situps in the same way, etc.

My cycling coach had me mix in core stuff between other lifts: Squats, core, leg curls, core, leg extensions, core, bench, core, so on. Works really well. I can usually do 5 or 6 different lifts with core in between each in a bit over an hour.
Also, if you really want a good core workout, use the bosu. its the half exercise ball, platform thing. should be able to find a few things to do on it online. that thing was designed to do core strength, i really like it.
