raise preflop. as played, i like a bet/3bet on the flop. if you lead, he calls, you lead turn, it's alot easier for him with his AQ or whatever to put you on a worse hand and put his stack in. the way you've played it has basically given him a pretty good chance to get away if he is thinking, and observant of your play. with stacks as they are, your play leaves you in an akward spot on the turn - still, I'd prefer to bet less and make it so he is committed to his AQ on the river, instead of giving him a chance to get away.
when you flop your set here, your goal is to get all the money in the middle vs Ax. the way you played it will not accomplish that vs most opponents.
