And BB can re-raise with a wide range of hands. But then OP makes it four bets from the small blind. At that point , if I were BB, it would look to me like more than merely a steal attempt. It would look as though OP had a very decent heads-up starting hand. At that point, if I were BB, I’d strongly consider AAXY as a viable possibility for OP.

Then OP bets this flop and BB just calls. Not a lot there.

But then OP bets this five that pairs the board on the turn.

I’ll concede that OP doesn’t need AAXY to bet this way, but wouldn’t you be a bit wary of that possibility if you were BB?

However, BB boldly raises when the turn pairs the five on the board.

At this point, if I were OP, a little warning light would flash in the dashboard of my brain, alerting me to the possibility of being up against quads. I would not be “afraid” of quads but neither would I re-raise. I wouldn’t step on the brakes, but I would let up on the gas pedal.

[/ QUOTE ]I guess you mean trip fives would be a legitimate hand for OP to bet on the turn. Well.... If I were BB, I would generally expect OP to at least have one ace to cap on the flop. Depends on what BB thinks of OP, I suppose. And if OP has trip fives plus one ace, well.... that makes a full house, fives full of aces.

So if I were BB, I’d at least put OP on fives full of aces, and possibly better. Actually I’d be wary of aces full. But BB raises anyhow.

This is the third betting round. The bets have doubled. The time for probing is over. OP bets and BB raises. This looks to me like serious betting for value from BB. What can BB have to bet this way?

You want to put BB on kings full? Not unreasonable. Can BB have fives full of aces or kings? That is possible too.

[/ QUOTE ]BB may be reacting to what looks to BB like a steal attempt. Once everybody but SB has folded to the blind post, what started out as a full ring game has become a heads-up duel between SB and BB. Before the flop there are lots of possibilities. After the flop there are still lots of possibilities. When BB raises after SB bets this turn, BB’s hand looks a lot like either quads or kings full.

Kings full is roughly three times as possible as quad fives. All the same, I’d let up on the gas pedal when BB raised the turn.

(I’d probaby still directly bet the river, but then would back off again if raised).
