My standard (ok, cliche) response to this occurrence is to point out to the button player that 'real men only need one card'.
We also tend to have a different usage for 'one time' up here. It's used less as suckout prevention and more as "ok, I'll peel a card to hit my longshot draw". And it's usually genuine too.
