Default Re: *300* Movie Review *No Spoilers*

It was the most badass 45minute trailer i've ever seen. The beggining, aside from a couple good lines and a couple good shots, was a snoozer. Waited until the battle, and it delivered, but i agree with some others that the OMG look how cool we are in slow motion was way overused.

The first time Leonidas broke the lines and started charging forward woul dhave been 10 times better if they didn't slow down every 2 seconds. If it had been the exact same shot, but in real time, then slow down at the last guy, it would have been much more exhilarating.

However, as i was thinking this, i then drew my attention to the two man fight right before the dudes son gets his head chopped off and enjoyed how the selective slow motion was used as an organic style. But then they kept doing it throughout and it became very repetative.

I liked, though, how they wove the narrator into the story.

No way lived up to the hype.

Every other shot in an action/fight scene shouldnt be in 1/2 speed.

This actually makes me want to see it more. I greatly prefer half speed, since it lets you actually see what's going on. I can't stand the schizophrenic, herky jerky ADD camera action that hollywood usually takes. This, and this alone, is why the Matrix was so cool

It doesn't have to be slowed down to be able to notice it. Just look at the difference between Matrix 1 and 2. In the first one, most fights were not slowed down, but were framed in a steady shot so you could see the actions they were making, then look at the second one where they overuse bullet time ad naseum.

Or look at the Bourne Identity, where Bourne fights the first assassin in the apartment. Smooth shots, fast action, completely understandable.

The only redeeming aspect of Troy was the Achilles v. Hector battle, which didn't slow down at all and remained [censored] awesome. Better than any fight in 300 IMO.
