Speed doesn't kill
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, a driver driving at 100 miles an hour is no more likely to lose control than one driving at 10 mile an hour. Not only that, but if they both DO lose control, they'll cause the same amount of damage.

I just took a drivers safety course (thanks speeding tickets), and found out that speed is the #1 factor in determining the likelyhood of a fatality in an accident. This is common sense. If you crash going 35, its very rare someone will be killed.

What they don't tell you in those classes is that a driver going 40 and another going 70 on the same road is more unsafe than all the drivers going 80. It is not in their best interest to tell you that. Again, speed doesn't kill--different speeds kill. If they would enforce who drives in what lane instead of the speed of everyone, we would be much better off.
The speed of traffic should be determined by the conditions on the road, not by some arbitrary speed put in there by politicians. Left lane for passing or fast drivers, right lane for slower traffic. If a person is going the speed limit in the left lane and the rest of traffic is going 10-15 mph faster, that driver is more dangerous to himself and others and the people going faster than him. This has been proven in studies, but never gets acknowledged by politicians or insurance companies because it completely contradicts what they have been telling the public
