I finally read the whole story on that You Mi girl (previous articles are linked in the sidebar toward the top of the page). She's really not much of a victim at all. She racked up $40,000 in debt from shopping and partying. They try to make it sound like she didn't know what she was getting herself into, but it says she was embarrassed to tell her parents and worried about how she'd repay it, so I think she had a pretty good idea.

Then, she hired people to bring her into the US illegally which they did and interviewed for hostess jobs. While the hostess jobs may have been a front, it sounds like she just had a massive acne breakout, and totally freaked out when she got there, making her not cute enough to get a hostess job. This is pretty reasonable.

So then she works as a prostitute for a couple months, pays off her debt to the people that brought her to the US, then continues to work as a whore for several months after to repay her shopping debts, before finally suckering one of her johns into becoming her boyfriend. This seems more like an illegal immigration issue than it does one of "sex slaves".
