If you define "living" as 50k and all I did was play poker, it would be no problem but I would hate it about as much as most jobs at a similar salary with no human interaction.
The best thing about playing for recreation rather than professionally is I don't have to care if I make any money. I can donk around, play 200 STTs, a few MTTs, some real live, some stupid home games, and really enjoy playing. Some months I make $5k, some 0 or less. I think a lot of people have a few good months where they put in a decent amount of play and win, then think about "going pro." They don't realize in order to count on the income, you have to play a whole lot all the time and you can't take risks with your bankroll. It gets a lot less fun when you realize a shot a low buy-in WSOP event is still probably your monthly nut.
