It's either that or they just tell alex that her dad is ben because she would have no idea otherwise. Admittedly I can't remember if rousseau just said her husband got "sick" or if he actually died.

Rousseau was 7 months pregnant before crashing on the island, so it's unlikely that Ben is Alex's biological father. Her husband's name was Robert - he got "sick" and she killed him, just like the rest of her crew.
