Not sure if this makes sense - kids get hooked into sports at a young age, before sexuality is a real issue to them. By the time they realize they are teh gay (let's say highschool) they've already developed a love for the sport, also have been playing for many years.

FWIW - my gay buddy (who is a huge, huge sports guy) said about Hardaway - "Well, at least he was honest, and he's saying what a lot of people are thinking anyway."
