Frodo follows Galadriel to a small clearing away from the enormous trees that make up the Elven city. She turns and beckons for him to look into a small pool of water in a basin.
In the mirror-like surface of the water, Frodo sees his past, present, and possible futures.
"Yes, Frodo," Galadriel says, "you see that if you stay with the Fellowship, they may all be corrupted by the power of the One Ring and betray you. You must set out on your own soon, and make your own way. Already, you can see that
Boromir has been corrupted by the allure of the One Ring.".
Frodo nods somberly, and returns to his bed, deep in thought.
The next morning, he's sad to hear that
the villager Neil Stevens has fallen from a tree to his death, but that's the way it is.
