Why blame him? If the case against the defendant is as strong as you think, then stokke is the only guy who did his job. Condemn the prosecutor or jury.

i think he's saying the defense lawyer had a moral duty not to take the case in the first place

i agree though that the jury was whack and the prosecutors probably incompetent

There is no moral duty whatsoever to turn down clients. The moral duty is in representing him zealously even if you think he'll probably lose. Sounds like the jury might have been the one ignoing a moral duty.
