It's amazing how different America feels now, post 9/11. Ten years ago, no one worried about having phone calls tapped, internet usage snooped, etc. Most people were never seriously concerned about the president actively circumventing laws, allowing torture, fabricating intelligence to start an illegal war.

Ten years ago, I'd never have given any credence to fears about being persecuted for my (lack of) religion or witnessing the cancellation of presidential elections.

Damn you terrorists for making us so afraid we'd hand over our rights like we do our taxes.
