If I'm remembering the recent doc correctly, there are around 60-80 million Evangelicals. The National Association of Evangelicals has 30 million registered members.
Another source estimate:
"When all is said and done, a general estimate of the nation's evangelical population could safely be said to average somewhere between 30-35% of the population, or about 100 million Americans."

I'd say the numbers are significant. The numbers mean even more because they are all on the same page, they meet regularly and vote in blocs.
