Yeah, they very well could have been giving him a stroke per hole if he was around 90 last time they played (possibly figuring that if he hasn't been playing much, not only has he not improved, he's probably rusty especially on the feel based shortgame). Say he's shooting low 80s now (very possible after 3 months of daily practice with a coach), he'd win every hole and they'd have every right to be upset with that kind of money on the line. If this is true that is a mistake that these players and others who hear about it won't make again, with Ivey or with anyone else, they'll learn to be more careful. Put in some sort of sandbagging rule or use verified handicaps based on recorded rounds with other players.

Sounds more like something Johnny Chan would pull than Ivey.
