My Apologetic Farewell...
I thought I was easily up to the psychological challenge of playing 24 hours straight, yet I only made it through 8..

At least you gave it a shot - and more importantly are not stupid enough to continue when your body is clearly telling you to stop.
Presently I have been pulling 12 hour sessions so I am sure I can do this I just need to find the time.
For the sake of mental sanity - and to avoid burning yourself out totally - to future people planning to try this may I suggest the following.
Decide when you are going to do this - and the day before get *plenty* of good sleep - get up get showered etc normal morning routine.
Then get setup - remove distractions from your poker environment get plenty of [insert preferred drink/munchie combination] close at hand fire up your poker site - open up a new PT database so you can keep results seperate for the time being - then set an alarmclock/egg timer for 2 hours....
It is nigh on impossible to keep focused and concentrated on something for 24hours straight. You need to break it down a little bit or it will all catch up to you big time after 16-18 hours at most...
Every two hours when the timer goes off, stop get up and leave the room - do something totallydifferent[tm] for 15 minutes - go outside get some fresh air or something - anything that doesn't involve staring at a screen.
15 minutes later - back for another 2 hours - rinse and repeat. Whether you decide to just play for 24hrs total including breaks - or to pull 12 2 hour sessions for a total playing time of 24 hours with a 26 hour elapsed time is personal preference.
Also regarding caffeine - whether you choose Redbull or strong coffee, Jerk Cola or some other variety it takes about 15 minutes for it to kick in (assuming you are drinking it) so if you neck a can at the start of each of your breaks this ought to keep you nicely topped up - and as your body quickly builds up a tolerance for stuff like that I'd avoid it until you start actually feeling tired otherwise by hour 16 or so it will have very little noticeable effect....
also plan on sleeping for about a day afterwards.
I'm sure it is possible for some people to just get up on chosen day - sit at computer and not move for 24 hours apart from going to the bathroom occaisonally, without burning out or starting to read 4's as Aces or something - but I don't think I am one of those people.
