I dont think their crime is as bad as you are making it out to be because:

a) They clearly were not operating very stealthily crimes in broad daylight are always less bad than people make it out to be. killing someone in broad daylight, meh. killing someone in a dark alley, now THATS bad!

d) It looks as if they were not the only people who have done or considered doing this type of ploy. If you want to be sure you are playing somebody else, play them in real life. You can never be sure of anything in online poker, and I am not sure if poker sites even require you to be playing on your own account.
