Re: college beat
This whole thread makes me seriously sick.
1) There are instances where students are given lower marks than they deserve. I have had two, and both were because the grades were determined on a scale different from what the instructor had explicitly outlined. This is not the case. OP deserves a D and deserves to flunk out of school. He deserves no sypathy and no protection.
2) OP owes his professor, his advisor, and most of all his parents a huge apology. His pride and defensiveness are foolish and arrogant.
2) Cit and Even did the exact right thing. Grade inflation hurts all high-achieving students. If unearned grades are handed out at any point, students earning marks above that point have the signifigance of those grades weakened. Bravo, gentlemen.
3) The posters upset with Cit and Even only show how horribly weakened society's attitude toward higher education has become. Not everyone deserves a college education. Not everyone is smart enough or motivated enough to make it through college--nor should it be this way. Some people are too [censored] stupid for college and they should be kept out. If those people are awarded degrees, there's no way to tell whose degree actually reflects achievement and whose merely reflects bleeding-heart sympathy. This is not the special olympics, and not everyone is a winner.
