1. I would guess not. I think most murderers either a) think they'll get away with it and/or b) aren't thinking about the consequences of their actions
2. To the best of my knowledge, no.
3. If one is judged to be morally preferred to the other I think this is unlikely to matter.
4. This is the crux of it for me - irreversibility in case of error.
