Wynn's management is a firm believer that no games deviations will be spread until all staff have been properly trained

I think it's pretty important that the floor people understand the game. The dealer understanding it is less important. The players can coach the dealer through the mechanics and as long as everybody at the table is understanding it goes well. It's when something odd happens that you really need a floor that knows his stuff. If a card is exposed during the deal, how do you handle it? If folks are arguing over how to read 3-card badugi hands, the floor better know the real rule. Stuff like that which the players have a vested interest in and thus cannot be allowed to "help" the dealer with.

So yes, I want the floor people to grok the games. No, I don't demand the dealers all be experienced.

Bav - from my own experience playing at the WSOP this year, you really don't want a dealer who doesn't have a clue. I used to share the same POV as you, but this experience soured me on the idea of having a resident expert on the floor with a dealer who is a neubie to the game. Also you must be aware that not all players who want to sit in on an odd deviant know the rules themselves. 2 nights ago wer were playing TORSE, and 1/2 the table never played Razz, TD, or Stud 8 before- yet there were requests for Badugi and Chinese Poker from two of them. Lots of people don't think the way we do - they are willing to try new games without some background.
