clearly K6o is a better hand.

you cant directly compare hands like that. the point op is making can be clearly demonstrated by the fact that in contested pots, where kicker matters, A2 is very often going to lose you bets to better aces and KQ will often win you bets against worse kings. not to mention the fact that it can make nut straights (and more straights).
