I would take it farther than this, though. I think that when you sign a massive crazy contract, even by your league's standards (not just the general public's standards), the kind of contract that is held up as a prime example for the need for a lockout, you have to live with the fact that your team has a big chunk of it's resources tied up in your contract and that the quality of the surrounding players is going to be lower.

This doesn't exempt McHale from criticism for his errors, it doesn't mean that I don't think KG is an awesome player, but IMO it does mean that you don't grant sympathy to a player who hauls in this kind of dough and doesn't get to have elite teammates.
