Re: US dollar bank account for UK residents
I have the Citibank US$ account and it works great. I've had surprisingly few problems using the Visa card to deposit on poker sites, although TBH it must be 6 months at least since I last tried so it might not be possible any more.
Withdrawing from Neteller works too, as a $1 bank transfer(although you also lose a small amount in hidden fees that neither Citibank nor Neteller can explain properly, because the money is routed around the world three times). I also have a Bank of America account that I couldn't link to my Neteller account - looks like UK Neteller requires banks with a UK routing number.
The Citibank account is multiple currency and you can transfer money around instantly. They used to give you a visa card on each currency but now it's just one and you have to call to tell them which balance you want to use it on. This is useless if you have any subscription payments on either account, so I stopped using it for GBP but if you can live with that and pay your salary in you should also get it free without maintaining a £2k balance.
Enough plugging... anyone want me to refer them? Actually the refer-a-friend is pretty crappy at the minute, looks like it's wine - happily offering 50/50 split but you'd have to collect!
