MT2R,

Speaking of that cornbread, prison movie vs. reality question.

Some guy (maybe this Cali guy you described or some black guy) grabs some of your food.

What are your options here?

[/ QUOTE ]
protect your food better next time and get better lunch mates. If guards see it, the offender taking the food is scolded FWIW.

[ QUOTE ]

Sounds like you are f'd if you fight him.

[/ QUOTE ]
often, yes

[ QUOTE ]
If you let him take the food, what next?

[/ QUOTE ]
he'll take more and more....eventually, he'll have you buying stuff at commissary for him to take from you. I've seen it.

[ QUOTE ]

If someone like that decides to mess w/ you and you aren't affiliated with a group, are you pretty much just screwed?

[/ QUOTE ]

yes

[ QUOTE ]

How often does this kind of thing come up and how does it usually end up?

[/ QUOTE ]

comes up often. I remember someone braggin how he was going to spend $100 at commissary to the guys on his deck. He goes, and does spend $100. He comes back with his arms full of stuff in grocery bags. Before the guard comes up from the guardroom on the ground floor to open the gate for the floor, he is jumped by 5 other guys. They took all his stuff.

The guy violated learns it's best to affiliate oneself and usually does. The alternative is to become heavily involved with the chapel/church groups whether one believes or not. OF course, that doesn't buy full immunity, but it helps as they often get to do things at other times than the rest of the inmate population.

This happens on a weekly basis
