Re: Are you prejudiced against fat people?
[ QUOTE ]
I am very strongly opposed to just about every other form of prejudice I can think of except for this one. Not sure what to make of that. Of course, everyone will say "but this one is something people can control" which of course is part of the equation here, but I don't think it's quite that simple to dismiss or all that different, really.

el d,
no one can control their race, gender, sexuality, or any other things we think it's not ok to discriminate against. for the most part fat people do have control over their weight, but for whatever reason they choose to not eat less, exercise, or whatever. to me this shows a fundamental lack of self respect, so if they don't respect themselves, what does that say to me?
also i was recently pushing obesity after a few years of crappy eating and not exercising, and now that i have lost most of that weight and look much better, i have found that i feel better and more confident, and that people have been treating me differently now that i am thinner.
where do we draw the line about where prejudice/discrimination is ok? if i can't be prejudiced against fatties for not having enough self respect to stay fit, is it ok for me to be prejudiced against drug addicts? that might be a bit of a stretch but hopefully you see what i'm getting at.
