In the left corner, we have John Hess, co-creator of Navy SEAL combative offshoot SAFTA (Scientifically Applied Force Training of America). In the right corner, making his pro fighting debut, we have MMA fighter Vitor Belfort, trained in BJJ. Don't blink or you might miss it.

Oh come on. I'm one of the people saying that the SEAL is not the favorite but this video has no pertinence within the parameters of this discussion.
Hess was a student of Lew Hicks (SAFTA founder) and was not to my knowledge ever even directly a part of the SOF community. While it is true that elements of the SCAR system (SAFTA is based off of this) have been incorporated into NSW center advanced training incoporated into CQB phases, the SAFTA system was never officially endorsed or bought by NSW or any other SOF.

You're partially correct, the whole of SCARS was bought and used by the NSW to train SEALs, not just elements of it. And Hicks was the top SCARS student according to the creator of SCARS. And SAFTA is commonly known to be SCARS with different marketing.

Where did I say that it was purchased just to train elements of it? What I was saying is that SCARs is not currently a predominant H2H training program for NSW. To the best of my knowledge it is only officially instructed within the SOF community at the NSW center in the CQB phase of advanced training. I know for a fact that neither Dev Group nor NSWU-1 utilize this currently.
As for the lineage, yes SAFTA is SCARs with diff. marketing for the most part which in turn is based off of beginner/intermediate techniques of San Soo.
What does Hick's capability have to do with Hess never being a direct member of any SOF?
