The thing is they didn't struggle with the goods one's the struggled with the crappy competition. Michigan for the most part steam rolled the crappy competition. They played well in both of their top 7 matchups this year, atleast as well as they could expect.

Is it Michigan's fault that PSU, MSU, etc wasn't as good as previous years? Maybe PSU wasn't good b/c it lost to get this:

Hmmmm...guess they aren't that bad after all.

Iowa wasn't as good as expected but before the Indiana loss they had played well. They kinda fell apart to end the season though.

I'm not saying Michigan would go underdefeated with USC's schedule. But I'm pretty sure they beat OSU on the road and UCLA at home.
