I actually wouldn't mind if it was conference champs and *good* wildcards if necessary. It would emphasize winning the conference and, hopefully, would open teams up to scheduling more quality games out-of-conference. It should also help keep relative parity among the conferences.
I don't really consider Michigan this year a *good* wildcard as they were a clear second best team in the big10 and it wouldn't be fair to Ohio State to not acknowledge that.
