I adamantly disagree with this (for most women). (Most) chicks want to be helped along with their independence, and they do it by trying to get you to make them. That is, she was actually asking him to tell her to do it herself. She may not be aware that that's what she's doing, but it is nonetheless what she was doing. The move there for him was to calmly explain (later, if she's too crazy at the time) that she is getting dressed anyways and sleep is important to him.

Women argue for the sake of arguing. They expect men to be men. Now that doesn't mean to be a [censored]-face but it does mean not putting up with bull-crap.

A man's job is NOT to do whatever the woman doesn't want, it's to do what HE WANTS, and he SHOULD WANT to be loving and helpful to her, but ON HIS TERMS. This is what women are looking for. And this "you go upstairs" things is BS and he will only become a doormat (who she will cheat on or leave) if he gives into crap like this. Be kind, be lovey-dovey, but BE A MAN, and DON'T put up with crap.
