To be on the otherside of this situation...

I was in a parking lot after a club in my SUV with a buddy, and suddenly a fight broke out on the corner. I was probably travelling at walking speed and some guy was coming at me head on in a BMW. He honked, I slammed my brakes without looking, but it was too late.

Did nothing to my car but it crinkled his hood. Dude flipped out on me, and I apologized numerous times. We start exchanging info, and an officer on foot approaches us and asks what happened. The guy exaggerates the whole situation, and thankfully for me I guess when you get in a wreck in a parking lot the police can't get involved.

I told the guy to get an estimate on the damage, and I'll write a check myself rather than using the insurance company.

He calls the next day talking about "$1200 worth of damage".

I told him I'll pay cash if he'd like and he said he'd call me back. THEN MY INSURANCE AGENT CALLS ME AND ASKS ME IF I GOT IN A WRECK THE NIGHT BEFORE. So I went to my agent's office and told him what happened. My agent said the guy told him that I offered to pay outta my pocket so it doesn't go on my insurance. I LIED MY ASS OFF AND WE ENDED UP HAVING TO SPLIT THE DAMAGE.

Why would he do that?
