Re: *** Official Arbitrage Posting Thread : 11/06 - 11/12 ***

You think the people suggesting you not post arbs are greedy bastards; I think the vast majority of people posting to this board are rank amateurs, which is why most of the threads involve arbing $550 SIA lines, basic strategy teasers, and how to hedge the last leg of your parlay. To each his own.

Aside: I am fairly new at this. I'd like to think I'm doing fairly well at sportsbetting as I've been able to make some picks with well identifiable edges and stand to make a decent sum of dollars (well enough to support myself ATM). Sportsbetting is zero sum and for that reason great handicappers etc obviously don't post their models picks etc. before they get sufficient action on them themselves. If it is a structural error they are taking advantage of (correlated parlays etc) then they will not share the structure of it, unless they want to help someone else out. This board has a number of excellent sports bettors who may or may not share their methods and picks on occasion which is no different from taking the money from a sportsbook in a different way. Yes, Pinny makes more money off an arb than the arber does but it allows individuals to leverage more of their funds on an arb than they normally would be able too. I have no fear putting 100% of my bankroll on a solid arb, whereas I could bet errant lines with a 2% of my bankroll. This allows me to earn more money quicker at a risk of closing down some of my square books sooner. The fact of the matter is that there are hundreds of books and one going under doesn't really matter a ton to most people. WWTS is down and everyone wants their money, but people are making it through the day.
beetman,
All +EV information in a zero sum game (poker, sports, casino) will directly hurt people already in the game. I suggest you read HSNL and look at the information that is withheld there. If you try to discuss advanced topics that are mentioned in HSNL and no one posts about in detail... well no one will discuss them with you. This forum is similar. If I make a post discussing how to design a systematic baseball model using various metrics. I will likely not expect mrbaseball to e-mail me a copy of his model and wish me luck. But if I wanna discuss a specific instance of matchups or pitchers progressing or regressing (akin to a single hand) everyone will be happy to chime in.
For the life of me I can't get why you bitch about people sharing arbs at well known square books. Most of these places have been arbed for years and will be arbed for years. Most have excellent financials and are well regarded. FFS do you not wanna share information? You don't have to post.
There's hundred of thousands of dollars of EV available to each person if not millions and you're gonna bitch about someone sharing $5.50 of it publicly?
