Pete: Regular Laphroaig ($30) is 86 proof. Cask strength Laphroaig ($59) is something like 110 or 114 proof. The 10yo quarter cask ($48) comes in right in the middle at 96 proof. So, a little extra kick, but not a full cask strength. The big difference is the flavor, though. The final part of the aging is done in small "quarter casks" which results in more wood contact that cuts the peaty flavor and makes for a smoother flavor. You still have the classic Laphroaig peaty taste (and that is still the dominant taste) but it is not quite so much in the forefront and more balanced w/ the other flavors. I am a big fan of the Laphroaig quarter cask.

Thanks. Quarter cask sounds very good and I need to try it ASAP.
