Most of the stuff from the beginning of the movie about Leo's character was stuff that was revealed in IA2. In the original Infernal Affairs, the moles are both well in place by the time the movie starts. The second sequel goes into depth about their recruitment.

I would've liked it a bit more if Damon's character and Leo's character had crossed paths a few times like Tony Leung's and Andy Lau's.

I really missed the opening scene in the record shop. I would have loved to see it.
