I'm not very good either but - it is great that Bc5 would control the long diagonal and hammer at the likely castled position. It is not so great that the piece would be hanging, and not really working with any of our other pieces. Hanging pieces create opportunity for combinative play from our opponents.

but, there are 2 immediate moves that defend that B if need be. dunno, it seems like the benefits outweigh the risk to me, but again, i'm not exactly a good player either

He responds Be3, what do you do? Move again? Trade? Both of those things are bad for black.
