I misunderstood. I'm sorry.

'S coo.

Here's my story:

I was home from school one summer and living at my parents' house. It was around 7:30 am, I went to get the newspaper and came in and sat in the living room reading. I'd left the door open and become aware of movement in the yard. I looked up and there was a guy coming to the door, with a handgun out. He saw me look up and puts his finger to his lips, indicating that I should STFU. He comes in and I realize that there are 2 of 'em. One has an automatic the other a revolver.

They ask me who else is in the house, I tell him my Dad, who was in the shower, and my kid brother who was sleeping. My Mum has gone off early on a bird watching expedition, fortuitously, it would later turn out, in my Dad's car.

One of the guys puts the gun behind my ear and tells me to take them to where my Dad is. I go into his room and head to his bathroom and I am trying to think of something to say so that he doesn't get taken totally by surprise & have a heart attack (or do something dumb). So I call out that we're being robbed (nothing like the unvarnished truth) before I get to the door. They let him put his underwear on, then tie his hands and feet (with his own socks) and one stays with him while the other still digging in to my head with his gun, tells me to take him to where my brother is. I convince him that the kid (he was actually 17 at the time) is asleep and there's no point waking him up, just more headache for them. He still makes me take him, I guess to satisfy himself that I'm telling the truth. So I do and he helps himself to my watch and some cash that's sitting on my bedside table.

He takes me back to my Dad's room and ties me up (also with my Dad's socks), and they proceed to go through my Dad's wallet and his drawers etc. They really don't get very much - I had more cash than my Dad did that particular morning, and they weren't interested in credit cards or VCR, TV etc. Then they ask which one of the cars was an automatic. Out of the three cars that belonged to the household at the time, the only automatic was my Dad's. Both my Mum & I drove manuals. These guys obviously couldn't drive manuals, so they just left on foot.

We waited a minute or so to be sure they were gone, then it took about 2 seconds to get untied (socks stretch!) and we called the cops. And never heard anything more about it after that morning.

While they were still there, the phone rang, and of course went unanswered. It turned out it was my then g.f. (now wife), who called back a few minutes later. So I had the mild pleasure of telling her that I couldn't get the phone earlier because I was tied up.

Then I got dressed and went to work.
