Re: Closest you have come to dying
Driving my '84 s10 pickup about 80mph down a curvy 2 lane country highway. I was trying to keep up with one of my buddies who was leading the way. It had just started raining so there was the usual wet/oily coating on the asphalt. I dipped the right side of the truck onto the gravel shoulder. I know it was the wrong thing to do, but I instictively jerked the wheel to the left. A smoother aproach would have been more appopriate, but my action sent the truck into a slide on the highway. I tried to correct the slide by turning to the left, but when the tires grabbed the road it sent me straight to the left ditch. The ditch was proably 15ft down to a corn field at a 45 degree angle. I was airborn through the decent, but when I hit the field the left front tire dug into the field and sent me into a 70mph roll. We esimated that I rolled about 6 or 7 times, Its tough to tell because there was areas of corn knocked down, and then areas of corn still standing which means some of the rolls were in the air. The only injuries I suffered was a bump on the head from releasing the seatbelt while upside down, and cuts on my back from crawling through the broken window. By this point my friend was out of sight so I proceeded to sprint about 2 miles until my friends drove back to look where I was.
