The above post (and Ed's original article) suggest that one should pay one's taxes to mitigate the risk of being audited or penalized by the IRS.

Is it so ridiculous to suggest that we ought to pay the proper amounts because it's the law and following the law is the right thing to do?

Put another way, if I could give you a rock-solid 100% guarantee that you would NOT be audited and/or penalized for failing to report your online earnings, how would that change your outlook?
