Re: MSU v ND
Just want to chime in and say both coaches in this game were complete idiots
First, the easy target of John L Smith:
-poor use of timeouts to end the first half. WTF was he thinking. He had momentum, he had the wind. Based on previous years' games verse ND and others, he should've known 17 point lead wasn't safe. MSU should've been up another score before half.
-Turned off the offense. Why? WHo the hell knows. I was in the sports betting IRC chat saying that ND was more than 50/50 to cover 2.5 when down 10. Apparently, John L couldn't see the same thing.
-Taking the knee on the kick return. Yes, the college clock runs quicker, but you cannot run off over 5 minutes. Holy hell, just bad preparation.
Now, onto charlie Weis--he's not the next coming peopl think (unless you're thinking of the next coming of Willingham)
-The 2-point play was awful. The announcers covered this in-depth. No need to rehash.
-Going for it on 4th and 7. The announcers covered this, but not nearly enough. ND was down 10. Momentum had changed. There had been 2 successful stops of MSU in a row as John L was trying to run out the whole second half. ND had the wind. Instead of pinning them deep and keeping the pressure on, ND went for it in a situation where success is less than 20%. MSU got a short field and got their only second half score as a result.
It was the battle of mental midgets to see who could coach their team to a worse loss.
