Re: Post Your Finest Poker Moments
Another great moment of mine that involves me winning money as opposed to having the balls to bluff off my last dollars is this:
Last summer I had a 30K roll and went to Atlantic City for July 4th weekend with 20 grand in my pocket. I was originally going to stay through July 4th, which was a Monday.
I decided to take a shot at the 10-25 NL game for 5K when all of a sudden, the biggest fish ever sits down: a smart former internet company CEO who was so rich he just didn't care. He literally called every hand except for one preflop for 6 straight hours: when he finally open folded the whole table was in shock.
A typical hand went like this: UTG raises to 100, I make it 400, he cold-calls with J2 on my immediate left. Flop 236, I bet he calls. Turn J I bet, he pushes, I call and win.
Back then this game had a 5K capped buy-in but he had hit trips so we both had big stacks. At one point I realized he just doesn't fold preflop so when it was folded to me in the SB and I looked down at AA, I made it 800 straight in a 10-25 game. He called. I bet 1K on the rag flop, he called. I bet 2K on the turn, he called. I bet 3K on the river, he folded.
Anyway, he leaves and the game breaks so I tally up my winnings and I had made 23K. HUGE score for me at the time, I almost doubled my roll. This was monday morning and I was so exhausted and didn't feel like playing throughout the rest of the day figuring what more could I ask for from this trip?
So I booked a $500 stretch limo to Washington D.C. where I was staying with my brother. I got in around 11 a.m. on Monday and my brother opens the door to see me, which he wasn't expecting. I'm exhausted, I look broken down, and I was home early. He just looks at me, aware of my past busto experience, and says "Don't tell me you lost all your money!"
I mutter, "No, I made 23K and took a limo home" and point to the limo pulling a U-turn on his block. He can't stop cracking up at the ballerness of my indulgent ride home.
As I'm going to bed, I take my phone out to charge it and find an orange 1K chip. I go "huh, I guess I won 24K. sweet."
My brother looks at me with insane jealousy and just shakes his head.
