There's -EV and there's -EV. Yes I'm sure they knew that it gave the player an advantage, and thus statistically they expected to lose some money from it in the short term (though perhaps not much, because the average player who does not know strategy will play a break-even game with 2:1 BJ), but they would calculate that in the long-term it would prove profitable. What they did not expect - or at least did not want - was a rampaging horde of EV maniacs descending on their casino multi-tabling perfect strategy BJ for precisely 1 hour a day for 3 days.
Happily for them they were forewarned of this impending disaster and got out in time, promo budget intact. I guess the guy or girl they pay to monitor the forums got a payrise today.
